French President Emmanuel Macron said U.S. Ambassador to France Charles Kushner’s criticism of France is “unacceptable” for a diplomat.
Kushner publicly accused Macron in August of taking insufficient action to combat antisemitism and linked the country’s foreign policy positions to a rise in domestic incidents of violence against Jews in France.
“This is a mistake and an unacceptable statement for somebody who is supposed to be a diplomat,” Macron said, adding, “If you are a diplomat, you have to follow the rule of diplomacy. …taxpayer money is not properly used to finance this kind of statement.”
