With special respect, I would like to address our veterans, those people who dedicated the best years of their lives to defending our country, you still maintain a strong spirit and teach future generations to love their homeland. Such a statement the President of Georgia made at an event in Vaziani commemorating the 34th anniversary of the Georgian Defence Forces [GDF].

"Today is a special day as we celebrate the 34th anniversary of the Georgian Defence Forces. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone on this momentous occasion, especially to our proud army - generals, officers, sergeants, and infantry. This day belongs to you, each courageous and dedicated soldier who serves our country and defends its independence, peace, and freedom.

Military service demands courage, professionalism, and patriotism. Each one of you is an example of heroism and dedication. You are the strong foundation upon which our country`s freedom, sovereignty, and peaceful future stand.

With the restoration of Georgia’s independence, significant steps were taken in the formation and development of the Georgian army. Since its establishment, throughout its 34-year history, the Defence Forces have defended Georgia’s territorial integrity and freedom with honour in every war and battle. For this, I bow to every service member.

We remember with great gratitude the wounded and injured fighters, who made immeasurable contributions to Georgia. Your strength, resilience, and love for the homeland are an inspiration to each of us.

I bow to the memory of our heroic soldiers who gave their lives for Georgia’s freedom. Their names will forever remain in Georgia`s history as those of heroes who preserved our dignity and national identity at the cost of their own lives", - said Mikheil Kavelashvili.
