The energy sector plays a vital role in our nation`s development, its advancement will continue to be a primary priority for our Government. The Prime Minister of Georgia said this at an event marking Energy Workers’ Day.

"Congratulations on your professional day. Today, Energy Workers’ Day is being celebrated at a very special location - a hydroelectric power plant commissioned in 1927, with nearly a century of history. It was one of the first major hydropower plants in Georgia, and from that point onward, transformative changes began in the development of our country and its economy.

The energy continues to play a vital role in Georgia’s economic development and advancing the sector would remain one of the Government’s key priorities.

The results we have achieved in the energy sector are thanks to each and every one of you - every energy worker. They reflect your dedication, professionalism and engineering achievements, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you.

Today, we are working not only to maintain these achievements, but also to further develop our energy system and strengthen our energy security. This remains one of the Government’s top priorities.

For more than a year, significant changes have been underway at the Ministry of Economy, particularly in the energy sector, and these reforms have already produced concrete results. Their full impact, however, will become even more apparent in the coming years as new energy facilities are commissioned and our energy system is further strengthened.

As you know, optimisation measures have been implemented across a number of areas, and the foundation has been laid for a new vision that will guide the development of our energy system over the next 10 years", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
