As of January 1, 2026, the population of Georgia equals 3 941.1 thousand persons, registering a 0.3 percent increase from the previous year. The calculation of this indicator is based on the results of the 2024 population census, as well as the 2025 natural and mechanical movement indicators, reads the report of GeoStat.

It should be mentioned that 2025 resulted in the negative natural increase (-6 452) and positive net migration (17 127). As of January 1, 2026, 62.7 percent of the population lives in urban settlements. At the same time, more then one third of total population lives in c. Tbilisi.

As of January 1, 2026, the share of persons aged 0-14 equals 19.0 percent, the share of the working-age population (15-64 years old) – 62.9 percent, while the share of elderly (65 years and older) – 18.1 percent.

As of January 1, 2026, the male population equaled 1 887.6 thousand persons, and the female population was 2 053.5 thousand persons. In Georgia, 48 percent are male and 52 percent are female population.

The sex ratio, i.e. number of men per 100 women, equals 92. It is worth mentioning, that under the age of 50 the number of men exceeds that of women, while the opposite situation is observed for the age group of 50 and over, which could be explained by females’ higher life expectancy.

In 2025 the life expectancy at birth equals 76.0 years, including 71.4 years for males and 80.6 years for females.

In 2025, the number of emigrants totals 114 374 persons decreasing by 5.8 percent compared to the previous year. The number of immigrants decreased by 3.2 percent, amounting to 131 501 persons. In the same time period, 85.9 percent of immigrants as well as emigrants represent the working-age population (15-64 year age group).
