The Scientific-Research Center of Agriculture is implementing a modern, eco-friendly method for managing the European grapevine moth (Lobesia botrana) at its Jighaura base.
This marks a significant step toward effective vineyard protection, reduced chemical intervention, and the development of sustainable viticulture.
As part of this process, a training session was held in Jighaura with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and under the ENPARD IV program.
The training aimed to deepen theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills. During the meeting, participants received information on the developmental characteristics of the pest, as well as modern approaches to its monitoring and management. Special attention was paid to the use of the pheromone method, which represents an effective and environmentally safe way to control the pest.
The practical part of the training took place in the Jighaura vineyard, where pheromone diffusers and monitoring traps were installed with the involvement of specialists. Participants were introduced on-site to the techniques and importance of their correct application.
The training was led by FAO specialists: Tamar Otkhmezuri, David Kikilashvili, and Giorgi Pipia.
This initiative is part of an integrated pest management approach and aims to promote the implementation of eco-friendly methods in Georgian viticulture.
