The parliamentary majority is ready to consider the demands of the newly formed initiative group established to protect national values and sacred symbols.

As Chairman of the Legal Issues Committee of the Parliament said, all initiatives that protect the country’s identity, security, and sovereignty are welcome.

“A number of initiatives by the Georgian Dream team have been turned into legislative changes, the purpose of which is to protect sovereignty, security, and values. Any initiative aimed at protecting everything that makes Georgia is important and welcome.

Accordingly, our team will deliberate on this matter; we will familiarize ourselves with the initiative, how it will be shaped, and what form it will take. We are always ready to deliberate and hold discussions on state-important issues. As for the initiators meeting with me personally - our doors are open to everyone, to the people for whom Georgia is their homeland”, - said Archil Gorduladze.

The newly established initiative group is demanding that the Government create a legislative framework to regulate the defamation of the church, sacred symbols, historical heroes, and national values. Members of the initiative group (including actor Giorgi Shanidze, director Giorgi Sikharulidze, and the director of the Batumi Theatre Kote Mzhavia) believe that such a law will protect society from serious confrontations and will not restrict freedom of expression.
