This is a correct and important decision, which is due to the active work of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - Kaladze on Nauru’s decision

Nauru`s decision to withdraw its recognition of the independence of occupied Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region represents a correct and significant step, said today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

As he noted, one of the primary and most critical priorities of the Georgian authorities is the recovery of the occupied territories and peaceful coexistence with Abkhazians and Ossetians.

"I believe it was a correct and significant decision. This outcome has been brought about by our Foreign Ministry working actively across absolutely every avenue.

Everyone understands full well how crucial our nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are domestically.

Naturally, it remains vital that work in this direction continues internationally. Regrettably, it must be noted that a part of our territory remains occupied and continues to pose a severe challenge. One of our primary and most vital priorities is to do everything within our power to recover these territories and achieve peaceful coexistence with Abkhazians and Ossetians. The Government of Georgia is doing everything possible to achieve this", -said Kakha Kaladze.

On July 21, 2026, the executive branch of the Republic of Nauru, the Cabinet of Nauru, adopted a decision to sever diplomatic relations between "the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of South Ossetia, also known as the State of Alania" and between "the Republic of Nauru and the Republic of Abkhazia".
