The Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee held a II reading of the draft law on Environmental Protection, along with its accompanying draft law.

The legislative initiative of the Government of Georgia was presented by the Deputy Environmental Protection and Agriculture Minister, Zurab Ezugbaia.

The draft law has been developed in order to support Georgia`s EU integration, to implement measures necessary for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and to fulfill obligations arising from the Treaty establishing the Energy Community.

The draft law addresses issues related to the establishment of a system for the authorization, monitoring, reporting, and verification of greenhouse gas emissions.

As noted by the reporter, following the first reading of the draft law, the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee submitted both substantive and technical remarks, which have been taken into account during the second reading.
