The Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee considered, in the II reading and under an expedited procedure, the Draft Law on General Education, which relates to the commencement of studies at the primary level of general education for the 2026–2027 academic year.
According to the amendment, a transitional provision is supplemented with an exceptional regulation, under which, only for the 2026–2027 academic year, a child who turns 6 years old between September 16, 2026 and December 31, 2026, inclusive, will be granted the opportunity to start studying in the first grade of primary education, based on a voluntary decision of the parent.
As presenter, Deputy Education Minister, Tamar Makharashvili, said no changes were made to the draft law following the 1st reading.
