The Parliament deliberated for the I reading and under the expedited procedure the Draft Law on General Education, introduced by the Deputy Education, Science and Youth Minister, Zviad Gabisonia.

The exceptional regulation is being introduced to the transitional provision, envisaging that only in the 2026-2027 academic year, a child who turns 6 years old from September 16, 2026, to December 31, 2026, will have the opportunity to start studying at the primary level of general education - first grade, on a voluntary basis.

As per the reporter, the hereof regulation is of a single-time application and covers the 2026-2027 academic year solely without modifying the general norms established under the law.
