Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia together with Geka Geladze, Minister of Internal Affairs visited the new administrative building of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The Head of Government of Georgia thanked the staff of the Migration Department for their efforts in the fight against illegal migration.

“Combating illegal migration is one of our top priorities. The number of illegal migrants in our country exceeds 20 000 - this is accumulated statistics. Over the past year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has managed to expel more illegal migrants from Georgia than were expelled over the previous ten years. Of course, these efforts must be accelerated. This is why the department is being strengthened not only with a new building and improved material and technical resources, but also in terms of human resources. The number of staff in the Migration Department has already increased fivefold, which underscores our serious commitment to this issue. Our goal is, in the medium-term perspective, to completely free our country from illegal migrants and we will certainly achieve this”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

The new administrative building of the Migration Department, designed to meet modern standards, is intended for 150 employees and includes fully-equipped workspaces with the latest inventory, as well as procedural areas dedicated to administrative processes.

The building also houses facilities for collecting fingerprint and habitoscopic data, as well as reception areas for asylum seekers.
