We have submitted a draft legislation to Parliament that proposes a ban on the importation of vehicles older than 6 years. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

“The number of vehicles in Georgia has increased substantially and rapidly in recent years. In 2012, there were 864,000 registered vehicles; according to this year’s data, that figure has now surpassed 2 million.

The scale of this growth is evident. Such an increase in vehicle numbers contributes, on the one hand, to traffic congestion and, on the other, to the deterioration of our ecological environment.

Therefore, we believe it is imperative to implement significant measures. To this end, we have submitted a draft law to Parliament that envisions a ban on the import of vehicles older than 6 years.

Naturally, there will be some small exceptions. We are convinced that vehicles over six years old should not be imported into the country. This is vital for protecting the environment, safeguarding people’s health, and ensuring smooth and comfortable movement for all. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Minister of Internal Affairs for preparing this draft legislation. This initiative is of great importance”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
