Law enforcement officers have arrested 88 people on drug-related charges - a particularly large amount of various types of drugs has been seized. The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs said this at today`s briefing.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs [MIA] continues its uncompromising fight to identify individuals involved in drug crime schemes and bring them to criminal responsibility.

As a result of police measures carried out by law enforcement officers in Tbilisi and the regions of the country over the past 24 hours, an unprecedented number of 88 drug dealers and individuals involved in drug-related crime have been arrested - a particularly large amount of various types of narcotic and psychotropic substances, firearms and automatic weapons, and cash allegedly obtained as a result of illegal drug sales have been seized.

Among the detainees are both Georgian and foreign citizens.

Evidence obtained as a result of intensive investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers indicates that the arrested drug dealers were systematically selling narcotics to citizens.

As a result of the so called controlled drug purchases carried out on the basis of a judge"s ruling, as well as searches of the defendants’ personal belongings, vehicles and residential buildings, the police seized a particularly large amount of various types of narcotics, including cocaine, heroin, alpha PVP, buprenorphine, methadone, morphine, MDMA and dried marijuana as evidence. Materials necessary for packaging narcotics were also seized.

The investigation is underway under Articles 236, 260, 260 (3), 260 (4), 261 and 265 (1) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

We would like to remind public that as a result of the fight against drug crime initiated by the MIA, over the last 7 months of 2025, more than 5,000 people have been arrested and brought to criminal responsibility for drug crimes across Georgia, including up to 2,000 people involved in drug trafficking.

Employees of various units of the MIA continue to carry out complex measures against drug-related crime on a regular basis throughout the country. We would like to remind the public that all those who endanger the lives and health of our citizens, especially young people, will be punished to the fullest extent of the law", - said Aleksandre Darakhvelidze.
