Inspectors from the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Department of the National Food Agency [NFA] are currently inspecting food outlets in winter high-mountain resorts.

Regulatory oversight is carried out in both large retail chains and small retail outlets to ensure compliance with standards for the sale and placement of food.

The inspections encompass proper storage conditions, expiry dates, temperature regulation, and the accurate provision of information to consumers. This encloses accurate labelling, such as the name of the food, ingredients (including allergens), colourings and additives, weight, storage instructions, and usage guidelines.

Besides, the label must clearly state the name and address of the food manufacturer or distributor, the country of origin, nutritional information, date of production, and batch number.

The NFA conducts inspections of food retail outlets across the country throughout the year. Considering seasonal variations, resort zones are particularly significant, attracting both local residents and numerous tourists. In 2025 the agency inspected 512 outlets within the Mtskheta-Mtianeti. Over more than 1,200 inspections, 92 violations were identified, appropriate measures were taken in accordance with law.
