Parliament approved the legal amendments concerning the free trade facilities

The Parliament reviewed, for the I reading, amendments to the Customs Code and adopted the draft law with 80 votes.

Under the amendment, a duty-free shop that is not located within the state border zone will be allowed to continue operating in accordance with Georgian legislation until 1 January 2028. Under the current legislation, a duty-free shop not located in the border zone is permitted to operate only until 1 January 2026.

"Such duty-free shops previously operated in Tbilisi and Batumi; however, at present, only the Tbilisi outlet remains operational. Therefore, in order to preserve the possibility for this outlet to continue selling goods to foreign diplomatic missions and equivalent representations, as well as to their family members residing with them, it is advisable to extend the relevant deadline until 1 January 2028", - said Shota Berekashvili.

The authors and initiators of the draft law are Members of Parliament Giorgi Barvenashvili, Levan Machavariani, Irakli Mezurnishvili, Anton Obolashvili, Mariam Lashkhi, and Shota Berekashvili.
