Election Administration has developed a new web platform, the “Disinformation Registry”

The Election Administration has developed a new web platform, the “Disinformation Registry”. The platform was created to help strengthen public trust in electoral processes and to enhance information security. Through the Registry, the CEC provides interested parties with verified and accurate information regarding disinformation disseminated about electoral processes and the Election Administration.

In the modern world, disinformation remains one of the major and growing challenges that harms democratic processes and exerts a negative impact on the electoral environment. This challenge is equally relevant not only for Georgia’s Election Administration but also for the election administrations of other countries. Accordingly, the CEC continually seeks and introduces innovative approaches and instruments that support public awareness, the effective delivery of reliable information, and the reduction of disinformation’s impact. The creation of the “Disinformation Registry” is likewise part of this process - a step aimed at strengthening transparency and increasing voters’ resilience to disinformation.

The new website disinfo.cec.gov.ge addresses the challenges associated with the deliberate spread of disinformation that negatively affects the electoral environment. The Registry consolidates all instances of disinformation whose dissemination aims to generate false perceptions within society and undermine the electoral process. It is noteworthy that, alongside disinformation, the platform also provides corresponding verified and fact-based accurate information.

The platform contains disinformation material identified through monitoring of the information space by the Information and Analytical Division of the CEC’s Strategic Communications Department. The “Disinformation Registry” enables interested parties to review the information posted in the Registry dynamically and to filter the published material by topic, year, or election.

The Election Administration made the decision to develop the new web platform with consideration of international experience, underscoring the CEC’s readiness to adopt modern standards and best practices. As the institution responsible for administering elections, the CEC will continue to respond promptly to all disinformation that harms the electoral process and calls on citizens to always verify and rely on official, reliable, and accurate information and sources.
