The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Shalva Papuashvili appraised the second chance to host the President of Armenia in the Georgian Parliament, underlining that the meeting was held against the backdrop of the intensive relationship between the two nations and the positive dynamics in the South Caucasus region.
The emphasis was placed on the frequency of high and summit-level visits, which demonstrated the longstanding friendship between Georgia and Armenia.
The Speaker emphasised that in an evolving world where the rules-based international order faces numerous challenges, Georgia and Armenia support each other`s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The meeting highlighted the fruitful inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries, including cooperation between the Speakers of Parliament, committees, and friendship groups.
The President of Armenia noted that in a changing world, amid the influence of external powers, countries must be able to protect their national interests and use the current situation to achieve positive outcomes. He emphasized that it is important to pass on the strong friendship between Georgia and Armenia to future generations.
The parties stated that both countries fully understand the value of peace and therefore approach its preservation with particular responsibility. The meeting also touched upon the situation in the region, underscoring the importance of the initialing of a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as the positive dynamics in Armenia–Turkey relations.
The parties reaffirmed their shared position that the South Caucasus region - where all three countries are united and maintain close ties - will become more attractive and bring numerous economic opportunities. It was noted that political stability will serve as a foundation for economic growth.
The parties also emphasized the importance of trilateral cooperation formats.
The meeting further discussed the relations of Georgia and Armenia with the European Union and highlighted the significance of the Middle Corridor in promoting greater connectivity.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice-Speaker, Ilia Injia, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee, Shota Berekashvili and a member of the Georgia-Armenia Friendship Group, Sumbat Kyuregyan.
