At the 11th Green Energy Corridor Ministerial, held in Tbilisi with the participation of representatives from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary, Minister of Economy discussed ongoing reforms in Georgia’s energy sector, along with the challenges and future prospects.

As Mariam Kvrivishvili underlined, the current reforms are ensuring transparency, competitiveness, and increased attractiveness to investors within Georgia’s energy market, a development that is also vital for deeper integration with the European energy market.

“Our goal is for Georgia to become a regional centre for renewable energy through renewable energy generation capacity, including wind and solar energy projects, together with our already well-established hydropower base.

As part of the energy storage programme, tenders have already been announced for battery projects totalling 200 MWh, which will enhance the system’s reliability and flexibility. Besides, the Georgian State Electrosystem is constructing new transmission lines and substations in accordance with European standards, thereby strengthening grid reliability and facilitating the efficient integration of new renewable capacities”, - said the Minister.
