Law enforcement officers arrested 50 people on drug-related charges, most of whom are drug dealers. Such a statement made today the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs.

“As a result of another successful police operation conducted across the country over the past few days, officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested 50 people on drug-related charges, most of whom are drug dealers – a particularly large amount of various types of narcotics and psychotropic substances were seized.

The police operation was carried out by officers of the Central Criminal Police, Tbilisi, Kakheti, Adjara, Imereti, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, Guria and Patrol Police Departments based on a judge’s ruling. Among the detainees are both Georgian and foreign citizens.

They are charged with illegal purchase, storage, sale and facilitation of sale of large and especially large amounts of narcotics and psychotropic substances.

The committed crime committed by the detainees envisions up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Evidence obtained as a result of the conducted undercover investigative actions, in particular, audio and video recordings, confirms that the majority of the detained persons were selling narcotics using various methods.

Various types of narcotics and psychotropic substances prepared for sale by law enforcement officers were seized as evidence as a result of personal searches and search activities held in residential places, as well as during the conducted investigative experiment, from the places indicated by them.

The police also seized the materials necessary for packaging narcotics, the drugs illegally sold by the accused, and the money allegedly received as a result of the illegal sale.

The investigation is underway under Articles 260, 260 (3), 260 (4) and 261 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia continue to fight drug-related crime on a daily basis. All those who endanger lives and health of our citizens, especially young ones, will be punished to the fullest extent of the law”, - said Alexsandre Darakhvelidze.
