
Law enforcement officers seized an especially large amount of "Methadone" drug, the quantity of which amounted to 1.2 kilograms, said David Kiknadze, Director of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at today’s briefing.
"I would like to inform the public on another large-scale police operation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs – as a result of police operations conducted late last night in Tbilisi and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, law enforcement officers seized an especially large amount of "Methadone" drug, the quantity of which amounted to 1.2 kilograms.
As a result of operational measures and investigative actions conducted by the employees of the Central Criminal Police and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Departments, along with the Prosecutor General`s Office, three individuals were arrested on charges of illegal purchase and storage of narcotic drugs in a especially large amount for the purpose of sale, the crime committed in a group.
The committed crime envisions up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
During the personal search of the detainee and search activities held in residential homes, law enforcement officers seized 67 packages of the drug "Methadone" weighing up to 1.2 kilograms as evidence.
As a result of the investigative actions, the police also seized items necessary for packing drugs.
The investigation establishes that the defendants were members of an organized group of drug dealers operating in social networks. They placed the drug in various places for the purpose of further realization, took photos, and sent it to persons interested in purchasing the drug afterwards with the appropriate markings and coordinates.
The investigation is underway under Article 260, Part III of the Criminal Code of Georgia. In order to identify other individuals involved in drug crimes and bring them to criminal justice, we will actively pursue the relevant complex investigative actions.
