I strongly urge Georgian Dream to reconsider its actions and return Georgia to the path of the EU, Western integration and democracy. Such a statement made today the US Ambassador to Georgia.

“I came to Georgia for more than a year. Since then, I have been working to improve bilateral relations between the US and Georgia and to support Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister"s announcement that Georgian Dream does not plan to start EU accession negotiations in the next four years is the latest in a series of actions that once again calls into question this government"s commitment to the Western course. It is worth noting that this statement of the government was immediately praised by the Kremlin. Last night, we all witnessed how the police brutalized detained protestors and journalists. I call on the government to respect the right of Georgian citizens to protest peacefully and the freedom of the press to cover the protest safely.

I strongly call on Georgian Dream to reconsider its actions and return Georgia to the path of the European Union, Western integration and democracy, which is the desire of the clear majority of the Georgian population.
