At a time when global trade routes are undergoing reassessment, our country is emerging as a hub of regional stability and logistics. In this process, reforms underway in the customs sector are of decisive importance, stated Prime Minister of Georgia while addressing an event dedicated to International Customs Day.

He congratulated the employees of the Customs Department on their Professional Day and thanked them for the high level of professionalism and sense of state responsibility with which they serve the country.

"Your work often goes unnoticed by the broader public, yet it forms the foundation of our state`s economic security. It is you who ensure the facilitation of lawful trade, the mobilization of budget revenues and the protection of citizens from contraband and hazardous goods.

Your service has developed into a modern, transparent and efficient system, which is one of the key prerequisites for economic growth, investor confidence and fair competition. Georgia"s geopolitical location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia makes our country a natural gateway. Georgia serves as a reliable anchor for seven landlocked countries, offering them access to global trade routes. Our goal is for Georgia to develop into a multifunctional regional hub that will bring prosperity to all-both our citizens and our partners. This strategy is based on large-scale infrastructure projects. The East-West Highway, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, dry ports and the Anaklia Deep Sea Port project all serve to strengthen Georgia"s role in the Middle Corridor", - added Irakli Kobakhidze.

He highlighted the ongoing reforms in the customs sector and noted that, alongside growing export and import indicators, Georgia has successfully implemented a computerized transit system compatible with the EU. This system ensures the seamless movement of goods with a single declaration and a single guarantee across the EU and 39 countries that are parties to the Convention.

"With the support of the Asian Development Bank, active work is underway on joint customs clearance point projects with Azerbaijan and Armenia, which represent a best practice of regional cooperation. The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance maintains constant coordination with international partners in the enforcement of sanctions. Our customs administration exercises strict control to fully prevent the use of Georgia"s territory for sanctions circumvention. In 2025 alone, the Customs Department adopted 2658 decisions to refuse customs clearance and return goods to the country of dispatch. This figure clearly demonstrates our state`s responsible approach to global security and once again underscores Georgia`s reputation as a reliable international partner", - noted Irakli Kobakhidze, highlighting that the Government of Georgia will continue to provide institutional support to the customs service in the future.

The event dedicated to International Customs Day was attended by members of Georgia’s executive and legislative authorities, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps.
