Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not received information about the presence of Georgian citizens on the tanker seized by the US

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs [MFA] of Georgia has not received any information regarding the detention of Georgian citizens who may have been part of the crew of the Marinera tanker.

"The MFA of Georgia is carrying out relevant work to clarify the information disseminated in open sources regarding the presence of Georgian citizens among the crew of the Marinera tanker, which was detained by the United States in the Atlantic Ocean on January 7, 2026.

At this stage, the Ministry has not received any information regarding the detention of Georgian citizens", - says the agency.

According to the existing information, the captain of the Russian-flagged oil tanker detained by the US is a Georgian citizen. Also, the crew of the oil tanker consists of 28 people, of which 20 are Ukrainian citizens, 6 - including the captain - are Georgian citizens, and 2 are Russian citizens.
