Officers of Signagi Police Division of Kakheti Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested G.K., born in 1993, who had a previous conviction and is currently on probation, for taking a family member as a hostage.

The investigation established that the accused person took his own grandmother, N.K., born in 1950, as hostage and demanded that her former spouse be brought back from abroad, otherwise he threatened to kill her grandmother.

As a result of the operational-investigative measures carried out by law enforcement officers, the accused person was arrested at the crime scene. N.K."s life and health are not in danger.

The investigation is underway under Article 11- 144 of the Criminal Code of Georgia which envisages up to 14 years of imprisonment.
