Georgian Foreign Minister is in The Hague, where a high-level diplomatic conference hosted by the Council of Europe [CoE] will start in a few hours.
Maka Botchorishvili was invited to attend the event by the Secretary General of the CoE.
The conference will mark an important step in international efforts to support Ukraine, as participating states are expected to establish an International Claims Commission.
The Commission will review compensation claims for damages caused by Russia’s internationally recognised unlawful actions committed in Ukraine or against Ukraine from February 24, 2022. A convention formalising the creation of the Commission will also be signed during the conference.
Georgia is among the first 25 countries to support the CoE’s initiative. Prior to the establishment of the International Claims Commission, the Register of Damage for Ukraine was created in 2023 to record claims for compensation.
