Parliament adopted the stringent sanctions for the violation of the regulations on assembly and manifestation

The amendments to the Criminal Code, envisaging stricter liability for the violation of the regulations on assembly and manifestation, were approved by the Parliament with 80 votes.

The Draft was introduced by Archil Gorduladze, Chair of the Legal Affairs Committee.

The Draft stipulates that in the case of the availability of tear gas, nerve-paralytic or poisonous substances, road blocking or installation of other temporary construction, the manifestants shall be warned and if they refuse to terminate their unlawful actions, they shall be subject to the administrative detention of up to 15 days, and up to 20 days of detention for the organizers. At that, if the administrative penalty cannot be applied, then a person can be fined with 5,000 GEL. And the organizers - with 15,000 GEL.

Participation in assemblies and demonstrations subject to elimination by the Interior Ministry or the wearing of melee weapons, pyrotechnic items or other substances capable of causing harm to people will be subject to detention for up to 60 days.
