Our ambitious goal is to reach 8,000 MW by 2028 and 10,000 MW by 2030, which will make Georgia a fully self-sufficient country in terms of electricity – Kobakhidze

According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, the authorities have the ambitious goal that by 2028 the country will reach an energy production capacity of 8000 MW, and by 2030 - 10 000 MW, which will make Georgia a fully self-sufficient country in terms of electricity.

In his speech at the event dedicated to Energy Specialists` Day, Irakli Kobakhidze Georgia also emphasized the significant reforms recently carried out in the energy sector, including cost reductions and staff optimization, which are aimed at further fostering the sector`s development.

As he stressed, achieving this goal requires the right policies and the implementation of large-scale projects such as the Khudoni, Nenskra and Namakhvani HPP projects.

"In this regard, one of the major challenges in our country was economic sabotage. Various actors were involved in this sabotage. Among them, certain organizations, funded from abroad, directly engaged in sabotage against our strategic national interests, which cost our country dearly, including in the literal sense.

In some cases, the country has had to pay tens of millions of GEL in damages precisely as a result of such economic sabotage. Unfortunately, at that time the state did not have sufficient resources to counter this kind of sabotage; however, today the state is strong enough to ensure the uninterrupted implementation of any project, including such large-scale ones and this will certainly be guaranteed by the Government of Georgia", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
