The OSCE Secretary General`s recent statement confirming that Georgia`s parliamentary election results reflect the will of the people has put an end to attempts by Brussels and some ambassadors to undermine Georgian democracy. Such a statement made today Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

"The conclusion was made, saying that Georgia has an elected government that represents the people; the election results reflect the will of the population. Everyone immediately sidelined OSCE/ODIHR and began circulating their own opinions.

Several months after the parliamentary elections, the OSCE Secretary General had to make a direct statement at the assembly confirming that elections were held and the population`s will is reflected in the results", - said Shalva Papuashvili.

He also added that the Georgian delegation at the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly has not supported any resolution.

"The document might have been supported if not for the interference of Joe Wilson, the Ukrainian delegation, and well-known groups like Poland and the Baltic countries, who, I question, why they are so opposed to the Georgian people and what harm we have done to deserve this. Their efforts led to the inclusion of half a sentence that we cannot support. Unfortunately, various media outlets, including those funded by the European Union, are spreading disinformation. The European Union Embassy remains passive while this is happening.

They even advised us against disinformation while simultaneously funding organisations that spread falsehoods. It`s disheartening that disinformation is being fueled, in part, by the European Union Embassy itself.

The original version of the resolution had Georgian support, and it was only the proposals by Joe Wilson and the Ukrainian delegation that caused opposition.

We supported the original version of the document, including the change we proposed. It was our delegation`s initiative, which the authors of the text acknowledged, making the overall resolution more or less acceptable. Had it not been for one detrimental sentence - introduced at the behest of the Ukrainian delegation and Joe Wilson - it would have received our support. Our primary concern was the issue of recognising the occupied regions; an effort to uphold Georgia`s territorial integrity through international instruments. This stance is a core part of our policy of non-recognition", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
