
At a plenary session, Parliament adopted, in the third reading, the draft law amending the Organic Law of Georgia on the Prosecutor’s Office. The draft was presented by the Chair of the Legal Issues Committee, Archil Gorduladze.
According to the amendments, the procedure for nominating and appointing a candidate for the position of Prosecutor General is revised. Specifically, the nomination process within the Prosecutorial Council must be completed within one week. Additionally, consultations with academic circles, civil society representatives, and legal experts will no longer be required for the selection of candidates. Every member of the Prosecutorial Council will have the right to nominate a candidate for the position of Prosecutor General.
Parliament supported the amendments to the Organic Law on the Prosecutor`s Office with 78 votes in favour.
