A meeting was held at the Central Election Commission (CEC) with representatives of international organizations and diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia. CEC Chairperson Giorgi Kalandarishvili and Deputy Chairperson Giorgi Sharabidze briefed participants on the preparations for the Municipal Elections of October 4. They provided detailed information on the activities and innovations introduced within the election administration, including new regulations and recent decisions adopted by the CEC. The meeting also featured a demonstration of the redesigned election documentation.
As Kalandarishvili noted, following each election, the Election Administration conducts a thorough analysis of the process and any issues identified. Based on these findings, it consistently adopts appropriate decisions. This approach demonstrates the institution`s commitment to minimizing grounds for unfounded accusations, addressing both identified and potential risks, and taking proactive, preventive measures to ensure the integrity of future elections.
The meeting also addressed the October 26 elections and related developments, including the challenges observed during the elections. Particular attention was given to the ongoing information campaign targeting the Election Administration.
Participants discussed the current status of the implementation of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations, as well as the administration`s future plans in this regard. The Head of the Election Administration reaffirmed his readiness to continue such meetings, emphasizing that they contribute to the exchange of information and the strengthening of constructive cooperation.
The meeting was conducted in a discussion format, allowing representatives of international organizations and the diplomatic corps to receive comprehensive information on a range of electoral issues directly from the CEC leadership. It was attended by 20 representatives of international organizations and the diplomatic corps, along with Heads of several structural units of the CEC.
