The Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated Mikheil Kavelashvili, the Georgian Dream’s nominee, on his election as the country’s 6th President, saying under his presidency, the institution of the President would “regain its constitutional mission and dignity”.

“I am confident, Kavelashvili’s election to such a critical post will make a very important contribution to solidifying Georgia’s statehood and our sovereignty, also reducing radicalism and so-called polarisation in the country.

Georgia has not had a patriotic and mentally and psychologically stable President for more than two years. In this regard, Mikheil Kavelashvili’s presidency will be a turning point for our country.

The primary mission of the institution of the presidency is to care about unifying country and society. Over these years, specific forces, external forces have used the President’s institution precisely to divide society. Additionally, the presidential institution was used to artificially weaken our constitutional order. To this end, Georgia’s Constitution was systematically violated using the President, with direct support from external forces”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
