The remains of Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia, Ilia II, is being transferred from the Patriarchal Residence to the Holy Trinity Cathedral [Sameba]. The procession began from the Patriarchate a few minutes ago, following the conclusion of a two-hour Holy Synod meeting at the Georgian Patriarchate.

The road has been blocked since morning due to large crowds, and security measures have been put in place.

Citizens and believers have been gathering since morning at both the Patriarchate and the Holy Trinity Cathedral, wishing to pay their respects to the memory of the Patriarch. At today’s Synod meeting, the bishops determined the funeral date and the details of the ceremony for the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II. He will be buried on Sunday, March 22, at the Sioni Cathedral.
