The author of the report published within the framework of the OSCE “Moscow Mechanism” somehow forgot to mention that, despite specific identified shortcomings, the OSCE/ODIHR mission called the 2024 parliamentary elections competitive and Georgian Dream the elected government, which is why the local radical opposition repeatedly and harshly attacked the OSCE and ODIHR. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.
As he added, the author also forgot to mention that the radical opposition has refused to take up their parliamentary mandates for the 2nd time in a row, thereby attempting to undermine Georgia’s constitutional order and democratic system.
“As for the specific issues discussed in the report: first – the elections. In reviewing the elections held in Georgia, the author of the report somehow forgot to mention that, despite identified specific shortcomings, the OSCE/ODIHR mission described the 2024 parliamentary elections as competitive and the “Georgian Dream” as the elected government, which led the local radical opposition to repeatedly and harshly attack the OSCE and ODIHR.
Furthermore, the author of the report forgot to mention that the radical opposition has refused to take up their parliamentary mandates for the second time in a row, thereby attempting to undermine Georgia’s constitutional order and democratic system. You will not find a single negative assessment in the report regarding these anti-state and anti-democratic actions of the opposition. The author also failed to note that the recent parliamentary and municipal elections were conducted based on new legislation, which was agreed upon with the opposition following months of work in task forces and which makes election rigging completely impossible - a fact that the radical opposition itself openly spoke about before losing the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Overall, even the author of the Moscow Mechanism report was unable to cast doubt on the democratic nature of the 2024 and 2025 elections”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
