Mayor of Tbilisi said Georgia had a patriotic Government, which was prioritizing the interests of the Georgian people and would not allow anyone to belittle Georgia or look down on "our country".
When asked about the silence of European bureaucrats on the events unfolding in the US, given that their stance toward Georgia had often been quite critical, he responded that it was the "usual" double standard.
"They see Georgia as a small country. That`s partly our fault too, because if we look at our recent history since independence, mistakes were made on our side, giving these people the right to dictate everything. Remember the years when even a simple statement from them was treated as absolute truth - no one questioned it, no one debated the issue. If a foreigner said it, it was taken as complete truth. That`s a huge absurdity, and that was our problem - the mistakes we ourselves made.
However, today Georgia has a patriotic Government that prioritizes the interests of Georgia and the Georgian people… The Georgian Government would not give anyone the opportunity to belittle Georgia or treat the country condescendingly.
We are an independent, sovereign state, and everyone should respect our sovereignty and independence. As for what is happening in America, every country should focus on its own issues. Every nation has problems. Of course, will do everything necessary to protect our national interests and take care of the Georgian people", - said Kakha Kaladze.
