Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said that the "end point" of current European leaders` governance would be "the complete erasure of European identity", responding to recent comments made by EU officials amid US criticism of Brussels.
"The society now clearly sees how truthful and correct the policy of the Georgian Dream has been, especially in recent years. All risks have materialised, all hypocrites have been exposed.
It is now evident how important it was for the Georgian Government to withstand the enormous pressure coming from the EU and Brussels, often through their subordinate parties and NGOs.
Without resisting this pressure, Georgia would have been in the same situation as Ukraine - unable to secure peace and trapped in a state of war created by hypocritical political leaders. The US administration had already told the EU that under the guise of European values, the European Union has turned into a space that restricts freedom of speech and democracy, becoming a source of conflict rather than peace.
This is the moment when European leaders must wake up. They have strayed from themselves and from the will of the European people…
The only solution for them is to return to fulfilling the will of their own citizens, from whom they are now so detached.
The new [US] administration has also outlined the outcome - the loss of European identity. The final destination of today`s European leaders` governance is the complete erasure of European identity", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
