The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia held a preparatory meeting for the 65th round of the Geneva International Discussions [GID] with the co-chairs of the negotiations from the European Union, the United Nations and the OSCE. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs / Head of the Georgian Delegation from the Georgian side to the GID, Lasha Darsalia.
The meeting focused on the need to ensure the effectiveness of the negotiation format and, in this context, on the need to achieve progress towards the main issues on the agenda of the GID, the implementation of Russia’s international obligations under the August 12, 2008 ceasefire agreement brokered by the EU, and the safe and dignified return of internally displaced persons and refugees.
The importance of restoring the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism [IPRM] in Gali without any preconditions and of holding the aforementioned mechanism in Gali and Ergneti regularly, in accordance with the fundamental principles, was emphasized.
At the meeting, the Georgian side sharply raised the issue of the acute security, humanitarian and human rights situation in the occupied regions and near the occupation line. In addition, attention was focused on the attempts of the occupation regime to restrict and block projects aimed at restoring confidence in the Abkhazian region.
The 65th round of the GID is scheduled to be held on November 11-12, 2025.
