Ideological currents of radicalism, long fostered under previous administrations, are being curtailed, and its tentacles are reaching other countries, including Georgia - Papuashvili

Speaker of the Georgian Parliament responded to US President Donald Trump’s announcement declaring the American radical group Antifa a terrorist organisation and launching an investigation into its funding networks.

"What does President Donald Trump`s decision to label Antifa as a terrorist organisation and investigate its funding reveal? It shows that the ideological currents of radicalism, long fostered under previous administrations, are being curtailed. The ripple effects of this ideology are reaching other nations, including Georgia. Radicalism is unstoppable, and its ultimate containment is through combating terrorism.

Promotion of radicalism must come to an end. The salvation of democracy does not lie in tolerating radical ideas, but in actively preventing them, because what appears as radicalism today could manifest as terrorism tomorrow.

Everyone, including the European Union, should follow the U.S. administration`s lead and refuse to support, incite, or finance radicalism, and must return to true European values, because those who play with the wind of radicalism will sooner or later face the storm of terrorism", - writes Shalva Papuashvili on Facebook.

Earlier Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social: "I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
