In Kutaisi, 720 displaced families received apartments in newly-constructed residential blocks.
Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated the families on receiving new, dignified housing and emphasized that this step reflects the commitment of the Government of Georgia to displaced persons. The Head of Government of Georgia spoke about unprecedented large-scale projects underway for the resettlement of displaced persons.
"There was a time when a person and their dignity had no value. That was the approach of the government back then and this changed radically after 2012. Today, under this government, people are the primary focus of our concern and our policies are entirely oriented toward this. Since 2012, a new law was enacted, setting specific criteria to ensure that the resettlement process is conducted fairly. Significant investments have been made in this direction and numerous residential buildings have been constructed, benefiting thousands of displaced families.
Projects currently underway are unprecedented in scale. At the same time, in five cities-Kutaisi, Tbilisi, Rustavi, Zugdidi and Borjomi-new housing is being built for thousands of families. The total budget for these initiatives amounts to 6 000 000 GEL. The House in the Village project is also being successfully implemented, through which 12 000 families have already acquired their own homes with yards and land plots", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
He also addressed the increase in the budget allocated to support displaced persons, noting that funds have grown from 25 million to 240 million GEL. Since 2012, approximately 39 000 displaced families have received new housing, reflecting the government"s changed approach.
The Minister for Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health, and Social Affairs, Mikheil Sarjveladze, spoke about the projects carried out and planned with the support of the Government of Georgia.
Symbolically, the Prime Minister of Georgia handed the keys to an apartment to the Arkania family. The event was attended by representatives of the executive, legislative and local authorities, as well as the Chairman and members of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia.
