Georgia remains committed to European integration, and it is essential that we steadfastly defend our people`s rights following our national values, state interests - Papuashvili
Speaker of the Georgian Parliament responds to t je statement by Sweden`s Minister for EU Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, who clarified that "EU legislation does not require member states or candidate countries to incorporate the concept of LGBTQ marriage into their legislation". "It is significant that Sweden`s Foreign Ministry has corrected the Prime Minister`s remarks and confirmed that the LGBTQ marriage issue lies beyond formal EU membership criteria. This clarification once again confirms that the Law on Family Values and Protection of Minors, which enjoys the broadest public support, aligns with the general principles of European integration. It is equally significant that the agreed principles between Georgia and the European Union regarding Georgia`s EU membership remain the foundation of our relationship, and that individual countries, politicians, and bureaucrats do not engage in arbitrary interpretation of these principles or create artificial obstacles on our path to European integration. Georgia remains committed to European integration, and it is essential that we steadfastly defend our people`s rights following our national values and state interests", - writes Shalva Papuashvili.
