Tbilisi Dry Port - region’s first modern rail, container and cargo terminal - is a vital strategic asset that will play a key role in strengthening trade flows across the Caucasus and Central Asia - Kobakhidze

Tbilisi Dry Port - the region’s first modern rail, container and cargo terminal - is a vital strategic asset that will play a key role in strengthening trade flows across the Caucasus and Central Asia, said the Prime Minister of Georgia in his keynote speech delivered at the inaugural event of the Tbilisi Dry Port.

According to the Head of Government, Tbilisi Dry Port will serve not only Georgian ports but also function as a container hub and depot for international shipping lines.

“Tbilisi Dry Port is being built in three phases on a 28.5-hectare area. The first phase is already operational, with an investment of 21 million USD. Upon completion of this phase, the terminal will be able to process 100 000 containers annually. Once all phases are completed, the port’s capacity will reach up to 200 000 containers. The dry port will significantly improve container handling and transportation operations, especially for cargo transported via the Middle Corridor from China and the Far East. Its strategic location - with direct access to international highways, connection to the national railway network, proximity to the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan and closeness to Tbilisi International Airport - makes it one of the most efficient logistics centers in the region”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.

He thanked the investors - Abu Dhabi Ports Group, Norwegian Wilhelmsen Port Services, the local company Inveco - as well as all engineers and construction workers who contributed to the implementation of the project.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the project is a major step forward for the country’s economic development. It will further strengthen Georgia’s connectivity and transit role, helping transform the country into a regional hub.

UAE Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, thanked the Government of Georgia for supporting the investors and noted that the Tbilisi Intermodal Dry Port Project is a successful example of the partnership between the UAE and Georgia. According to him, strategic and global partnership with Georgia is deepening and trade is developing, which guarantees peace, progress and stability.
