Georgian language is a symbol of our identity, spirituality and unity - Irakli Kobakhidze

The Georgian language is a symbol of our identity, spirituality and unity, writes the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"April 14, 1978, is one of the most remarkable dates in our history. The Soviet authorities„ intention to revoke the status of the Georgian language as a state language was met with a patriotic response from Georgian society, which ultimately forced the Soviet government to reverse its decision.

The Georgian language is a symbol of our identity, spirituality and unity. Ilia Chavchavadze taught us that language is sacred and a common treasure, which "must be supported by every person".

This heroic act of defending the native language not only preserved its status as a state language but also became a turning point, providing the first powerful impulse to the rise of the national movement.

It is our constant obligation to strengthen the unique role of the Georgian language in the global cultural space, to support all our citizens in learning the Georgian language and to reinforce its significance as the state language", - says Irakli Kobakhidze.
