In connection with the ongoing rehabilitation works on Rustaveli Avenue, the capital’s municipality has developed a temporary traffic scheme, which will come into effect from September 1.

Tbilisi Mayor spoke about the importance of an alternative traffic scheme on the streets adjacent to the capital’s main avenue in a video message released today.

In particular, according to the new scheme, two-way traffic will be established on a number of streets, and two main directions have been developed, which will allow access to the Tbilisi Classical Gymnasium.

As Kakha Kaladze noted, the rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue will be the best project that everyone will be proud of, but before that, it is necessary for the capital’s population to treat the discomfort caused by the works with patience.

“A few days ago, I spoke about how important the implementation of this project is for our city, and I also spoke about the significance of Rustaveli Avenue - its past, present, and future, including how difficult the situation is and what problems exist in terms of underground infrastructure.

Of course, the first thing being done is the replacement of underground utilities, which comes with great discomfort, especially regarding movement, as well as noise and dust that affect the local residents; however, carrying out works of this scale is absolutely impossible otherwise. Therefore, my request was for all of us to be patient together until the end of November, and believe me, when the rehabilitation is completed, it will be the best project, and we will all be proud of the work done”, - said the Mayor.

As he added, information regarding the temporary traffic scheme is particularly important for drivers, so besides social platforms, it will also be broadcast on television in the form of a video clip to ensure that the general public has full information about the changes.

Regarding the temporary traffic scheme, starting September 1, two-way traffic will be allowed on Pavle Ingorokva Street; two-way traffic will also be permitted on a section of 9 April Street, specifically on the road segment from the intersection with Ingorokva Street to the intersection with Zurab Zhvania Street; two-way traffic will be possible on a certain section of Zhvania Street (from the intersection of 9 April Street to the intersection of Zakaria Chichinadze Street), while movement up to the intersection of Besiki Street will remain one-way.

In addition, a section of Besiki Street, specifically from the intersection of Zhvania Street to the intersection of Shevchenko Street, will be one-way; likewise, traffic on Shevchenko Street will be one-way moving from Besiki Street toward Chichinadze Street; movement on Lermontov Street will remain one-way but with a changed direction - it will now be possible to get to Shalva Dadiani Street from Kikodze and Machabeli streets via Lermontov Street.

It will be possible to reach the Tbilisi Classic Gymnasium from two main directions. In particular, drivers from Freedom Square will connect to 9 April Street via Leonidze and Ingorokva streets, then turn left onto Zhvania Street and continue moving toward Besiki and Shevchenko streets. Also, from both Chonkadze and Polikarpe Kakabadze streets, they will turn onto Mtatsminda Street and connect to Besiki and Shevchenko streets via Arsena Street.

From Shevchenko Street, turning left, it will be possible to return via Zhvania, 9 April, and Ingorokva streets, from where drivers will connect to Lermontov and Dadiani streets, as well as Freedom Square, via Leonidze and Kikodze streets; reaching the upper streets of Mtatsminda will be permitted from 9 April Street via Arsena Street.
