Parliament to set the date for the presidential election today

The Parliament will set the date for the election of the President today, November 26.

“There are certain circumstances that are important to take into account. We must elect the President for a 5-year term. If you are interested in the Constitution. Accordingly, in order for the President to be elected for 5 years, it is important that the elections and inauguration be held this year”, - explained Shalva Papuashvili, Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

For the first time in the history of Georgia, the President will be elected indirectly according to the American model. Central Election Commission will form an electoral college, which consists of 300 members, all electors, which includes 150 members of the Parliament, while the other 150 members, is composed of 20 members from the Supreme Council of Abkhazia, 21 members from the Supreme Council of Adjara, and the remaining 109 members are formed from representatives of local self-government bodies, based on the proportion of support received by the parties in the 2021-2022 period.
