Parliamentary Delegation holds meetings in the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil

The Parliamentary Delegation serves the official visit to Brazil. Within the framework of the visit, Members of Parliament held meetings with the Chair of the Foreign Relations and the Defence Commission of the Senate, Nelsinho Trad; the Chair of the Foreign Relations and the Defence Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Luiz Nishimori; and the Chair of the Education Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, Maurício Carvalho. The meetings were dedicated to the deliberations on parliamentary ties and the cooperation prospects.

As noted, the regular joint Committee sittings are regarded as a substantial format for enhancement of Parliamentary cooperation. These sittings can be convened online and during the bilateral visits. Georgian MPs expressed their gratitude to their Brazilian colleagues for supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia.

As per the Brazilian lawmakers, supporting the territorial integrity of Georgia is based on the fundamental principles of international law and correspondingly, their position is unwavering. Delegation members seized the meetings as a platform to present information on the economic reforms implemented in Georgia, which led to a two-digit economic growth rate. The discussions also covered the political landscape of Brazil and Latin America.

Speaking about the economic potential of Georgia, the emphasis was placed on its capacity as a transit corridor and investment platform.

During the meeting in the Education Committee, the parties emphasised that fostering cooperation between the Georgian and Brazilian universities and sharing the best practices in the education reforming process will ultimately lead to the strengthening of their partnership.

During the visit to Brazil, Georgian MPs met with the Head of the Brazil-Georgia Friendship Group, Claudio Cajado. The 2 Heads of the Friendship Groups agreed upon the dynamic cooperation format. As mentioned, the Brazilian Parliament has scheduled to organise Georgian Days in autumn, in response, the Georgian Parliament will host the Brazilian Days next year.

Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, is composed of: Mariam Lashkhi, Head of the Georgia-Brazil Friendship Group/Chairperson of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee; Victor Sanikidze, Chairman of the Sports Committee; as well as the Ambassador of Georgia to Brazil, Zurab Mchedlishvili.
