Municipal elections will be held on October 4, 2025. The presidential decree on the calling of elections, issued with the co-signature of the Prime Minister of Georgia, entered into force today.
A session of the Central Election Commission was held today. The Commission approved the schedule of electoral activities for the October 4 elections and also determined various important matters related to the elections.
As the CEC Spokesperson Natia Ioseliani announced at the news briefing held after the session, on October 4, citizens of Georgia will elect 2,058 members of 64 Sakrebulos (municipal councils) through both proportional and majoritarian systems, as well as 64 mayors.
Except in cases provided by law, elections for the municipal representative body will be conducted using electronic means - nearly 90% of voters will cast their votes through verification and ballot counting devices. A total of 3,051 polling stations will be opened nationwide, of which 2,284 will conduct voting electronically, while 767 will operate using the traditional method.
“The election administration has already begun implementing the electoral procedures defined by law. As of today, all legislative requirements, permissions or prohibitions related to the calling of elections are in force. Also, as of today, the rules for conducting the pre-election campaign (agitation) have entered into force, along with the regulations prohibiting the use of budgetary funds, official position, or professional status.
The election administration will operate in accordance with the principles of the rule of law, political neutrality, and professionalism, and will conduct its activities in line with high ethical standards of conduct. Furthermore, all interested parties involved in the elections are encouraged to engage actively, observe the process, and assess the electoral process objectively and fairly”- announced Natia Ioseliani.
