The Revenue Service [RS] of the Ministry of Finance responds to the disinformation spread today by various media outlets regarding customs control procedures at the country’s borders.

“The RS declares with full responsibility that the import/export of goods into the customs territory of Georgia, as well as customs control procedures for individuals crossing the state border through all customs checkpoints, are proceeding smoothly.

In addition, in order to implement customs control procedures 24-hourly, the number of customs officers has been increased at checkpoints throughout Georgia.

In order to ensure the continuity of increased international cargo turnover, within the framework of joint management of customs checkpoints, the Revenue Service is in intensive communication with the relevant customs administrations of the Republics of Turkey, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

We would like to clarify here that the Customs Department of the RS has the latest inspection systems in order to prevent potential threats at the border. Customs checkpoints are equipped with stationary X-ray scanners for various purposes, which ensure the rapid implementation of customs control, as well as contribute to security protection and, at the same time, reduce the duration of customs inspection procedures.

The RS once again calls on everyone to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated and harmful information regarding cargo control in the country”.
