Georgia has welcomed close to 30,000 Ukrainians in the past more than two years, offering protection, dignity and hope. Such a statement made today Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations in Georgia, Didier Trebucq.
"I am today at the Ukrainian Housing Building, and I`m very happy because we are going to award certificates to 19 new businesses created by Ukrainian refugees here in Georgia.
And I really want to commend this initiative that is implemented by the United Nations Development Program, by CARE Caucasus, as well as with the support of the German government. This is important, given that Georgia has welcomed close to 30,000 Ukrainians in the past more than two years, offering protection, dignity and hope. And this Ukrainian House, I believe, is a symbol of solidarity and hope for Ukrainian people arriving in Georgia.
They receive training to rebuild their lives, to create businesses, to speak the language, and a little support that enabled them really to create opportunities and economic development as well for the countries. They have created jobs. So refugees shouldn’t be seen just by the numbers, but by the talent, by what they bring to the countries. And this is what we want to reflect on today – on the ability of Ukrainian people relocating to Georgia, contributing to the economic development of Georgia and to the cohesion of the society in Georgia.
So I want to congratulate our UN agencies, especially the UNDP, working with the support of the German government and CARE South Caucasus for this initiative. And we are very grateful for Ukrainian people welcoming us and welcoming our support on that", - said Didier Trebucq.
