Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament, featured at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations [ASEAN] Parliamentary Assembly session in Phnom Penh, dedicated to peace and security matters.

Nikoloz Samkharadze underlined the great importance and relevance of Southeast Asia`s involvement in the process of resolving global issues: "Southeast Asia is historically, culturally, and ethnically one of the richest and most diverse regions in the world, therefore its involvement in the process of resolving global issues is of great importance and relevance".

He also emphasised the difficult situation in Russian-occupied regions [Abkhazia / so-called South Ossetia] and thanked the Assembly member states for their strong support for Georgia`s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The MP discussed global security challenges, Russian occupation, the ongoing developments in the Black Sea region, underlining the need to uphold the principles of international law in order to establish peace.

"We see alarming trends when some countries resort to brute force under the pretext of crisis resolution, which actually further exacerbates conflicts and international crises.

The increase in the number of armed conflicts, coupled with alarming, hostile rhetoric from high-ranking politicians, poses a serious threat to global security. Government of Georgia is ready to contribute to the implementation of peace initiatives", said Nikoloz Samkharadze.
