Recommendation given to us by the Strasbourg court is crucial for us, the June 20 case requires investigation in all directions - Prime Minister

The recommendation given to us by the Strasbourg court [ECHR] is crucial for us – the June 20 case requires investigation in all directions. Such a statement made today the Prime Minister of Georgia.

"In this case too, we must thank the Strasbourg court, which demanded additional investigation into the June 20 case. You remember what the political context of this investigation was like.

At the time, under pressure from former US administration, pressure from EU officials, we were forced to adopt an Amnesty Law, which essentially meant that punishment didn`t extend to both sides – one side was those who organized the criminal assault on Georgia`s Parliament and tried to overthrow our constitutional order. On the other side, the amnesty law essentially extended to those people who, under very suspicious circumstances, fired rubber bullets.

The recommendation from the Strasbourg court is vital for us. Certainly, the June 20 case requires a thorough investigation from all angles, especially regarding who made the decision to use rubber bullets and how the situation escalated to this point", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
