European Parliament wants to see a puppet Government in Georgia, until that happens, the EU is deliberately working to escalate tensions in EU-Georgia relations - MEP András László

András László, Hungarian Member of the European Parliament [EP], denounced the recent report on Georgia as “disgrace”.

“It is a disgrace for the EP. This report is neither European nor democratic in its nature. It is clear that the majority of the EP wants to see a puppet Government in Georgia. Until that happens, the EU is deliberately working to escalate tensions in EU-Georgia relations. That’s exactly what this report serves.

The EP wants to tell Georgians who should be in power, when and who should organise elections, and who can monitor them. It wants to decide who qualifies as civil society - those who were funded by the Biden administration through USAID, which has now been shut down by the Trump administration.

The EP wanted to decide Georgia’s foreign policy - a matter that falls under national competence even for EU member states. You don’t see Georgia as a partner, you treat it as a colony. What is needed is not sanctions, but a sincere dialogue that respects Georgia’s sovereignty, geopolitical situation”, - said László.
